Ian Harrison Legendary Bodybuilder, Ozone Knee Injections

Meet our friend Ian Harrison, affectionately known as "British Storm", legendary bodybuilder for the past 33 years and Owner/Operator of City Fitness Bradenton in Bradenton, FL.  Ian was a power lifter in his youth and at the age of 17 squatted 620 pounds not once...not twice...but TWELVE times!  Unfortunately he ended up doing damage to his knees and has lived with the pain all his life.  He never got a knee replacement done and has been searching for a solution other than having his knees operated on.  We had the privilege of meeting Ian thru our friends at Hoyes Pharmacy and we immediately liked the guy.  Very knowledgeable and extremely nice, our type of people.  Dr. Rucker thought Ian would be an ideal candidate for Prolozone Therapy on his knees and Ian was all for it.  We injected Ian's knees on Wednesday morning and the healing began IMMEDIATELY.  Here is the video of Ian after having his knees injected as I can't type the words to do the healing power justice.

We are big fans of Ian Harrison and his General Manager Rex Ruswick at City Fitness Bradenton.  Best gym in the Sarasota/Bradenton surrounding area and I have no problem recommending any friends or patients to their facility.  You won't find better quality or knowledge to reach your fitness goals.

RejuvenateYou "Body Repair Workshop" in Tampa, FL

We have to look at our body like an automobile.  No matter how long you drive your car you need to refuel, get the oil changed, balance and rotate the tires, and maintain the car.  If you don’t maintain your car…then you are stuck with a car in your garage or your mechanic’s garage!  What we want to do is restore your car back to a well oiled machine.
Which car do you want to be??

What has happened in our society is that we forgot to put proper fuel in our bodies.  This has lead to an epidemic with our overall health where obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are climbing at an alarming rate.  Insanity is doing something over and over and expecting different results.  Now it’s time to change your health pattern and get better results.

During this seminar with Dr. Bino Rucker, M.D. we plan to go over a broad range of topics.  The main points we will talk about are as follows:

1. Diet (i.e. Food, Supplements, and Exercise)
2. Hormonal Issues
3. Chronic Fatigue
3. Chronic Injuries or Sports Injuries
4. Aesthetic Procedures
5. Fortifying the Mind and Spirit

This will give us a broad range of topics to cover and go in any direction.  Moreover, we would like to keep it informal and have our guests ask any questions or bring up any topics they want us to talk about in more detail.

Same woman, but a totally different person!
Lastly, being that April Lane has been gracious enough to host all of us at her home I thought we could  all supply the food and bring a pot luck meal…..but the catch is I want each dish to be Paleo friendly.  That means no starch, grains, legumes, processed foods, sugars, or dairy.  You can go to www.paleodietlifestyle.com or Google a dish you want to make and type paleo in front of it.  This would be a great way for new people to get acquainted to the Paleo Diet and have the ability to try different dishes.

If you have questions you want to ask prior to the seminar feel free to send us an email at info@rejuvenate-you.org and we will make sure that question is addressed during the seminar.  Please RSVP so I can get a head count if you don't sign up via Facebook.

Location: 7814 Riverwood Oaks Drive Riverview Florida 33578
Date: March 22, 2013
Time: 6PM til you guys know all the answers!

Don't worry Bradenton/Sarasota...we will be doing one in the near future as I didn't want you to feel left out.  Thank you very much and we are looking forward to a fun and informative night!

Dr. Bino's Corner, Dealing with Migraines

Dr. Bino is always in your corner dispensing advice!
A new segment we want to initiate relates to common ailments our patients have to deal with, and how Dr. Bino would treat the ailment in comparison to traditional medicine.  I came up with the name "Dr. Bino's Corner" as he is your trainer that is here to get you in peak fitness and help you fight against your medical issues.  He is like Mickey in "Rocky" (if you haven't seen any of the "Rocky" movies you now have a homework assignment).  Rocky would not have won ANY fights without Mickey.  Together they were a formidable team who could think outside of the box to beat their opponents.  This collaboration with our patients will hopefully allow them to live a healthier life.

Our first installment will deal with a patient who is suffering from migraines.

Patient:  Any advice on natural remedies for migraines?  I have been suffering for the last couple of months and am about to go crazy!  I have been drinking very little and have been trying to eat whole foods whenever possible.  When I have an onset of a migraine I take Immitrex and it will mask the initial pain, but the "headachy" feeling won't go away.  My doc gave me steroids which worked for a while but then the headaches came back.  I take Sudafed and a nasal spray (for sinus/barometric pressure) and then Advil as needed.  Anyway, thought you may have come across this in your new endeavor and I'll take all the advice I can get!

Dr. Bino's Corner:  Here are the things Dr. Bino advocates in order to correct your system:

1. Switch to a Paleo Diet and cut Gluten out of your system
2. Add Alpha Lipoic Acid as a supplement - Preliminary evidence suggests that lipoic acid could offer welcome relief for migraine sufferers. When a group of these individuals received a supplement of 600 mg of lipoic acid each day for three months, the frequency and intensity of their migraines declined modestly, and they also reported suffering fewer headache days.24
3. Add Magnesium as a supplement - Magnesium relaxes arteries and muscles in the body, both of which can help with headaches.
4. Increase Vitamin C Intake - Vitamin C has been researched as a possible treatment for different types of pain, including regional pain syndrome.  Another study, found lower levels of Vitamin C in people with neuropathic pain syndrome.
5. Decrease Caffeine Intake - According to the Department of Neurology, at the Meir General Hospital in Kfar Saba, Israel, “Caffeine is the most widely used behaviorally active substance.  Excessive caffeine consumption, mostly in the form of coffee and tea, is a well-recognized cause of headache or migraine, and withdrawal can cause headache.”

Our patient in this example should see some benefits in about 3 weeks.  It just depends on each individual's body and how it reacts to the change.

That is our first installment and if you have a condition you want us to address feel free to send us a message at info@rejuvenate-you.org

Chicken Soup with Kelp Noodles

Paleo Chicken Noodle Soup, Kelp Noodles
Made by DeeDee Navarro
I finally got my first guest contributor and it comes from DeeDee Navarro in Charlotte, NC.  DeeDee has always made a fantastic chicken noodle soup but she decided to change it up when she saw the dish I made with Kelp Noodles.  It's still winter and nothing tastes better than home made chicken noodle soup a la paleo style.  Let's see how DeeDee made her wonderful Chicken Noodle Soup!

Ingredients:
4 cups chopped chicken, I used whole rotisserie chicken, deboned.
1 cup chopped celery
3 carrots sliced
1/2 onion, chopped
1/4 cup butter (organic butter if you want)
1 package sea tangle kelp noodles
12 cups water
12 tsp of "better than bouillon" concentrated chicken stock or 9 cubes chicken bouillon
1/2 tsp dried marjoram
1 bay leaf
ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 cup chopped kale if desired.

Debone whole rotisserie chicken, set aside.  In large stock pot, sauté celery and onion in butter.  Add chicken, carrots, water, bouillon, marjoram, black pepper, bay leaf, parsley, and kale.  Simmer for 30 minutes.  Add noodles, simmer for another 5-10 minutes.  Serve and enjoy a delicious low carb chicken noodle soup, with extra nutrition from kelp and kale!

DeeDee is quite the budding cook and check out her company called The Bungalow Picnic Company.  Her granola is the best I have ever had and she has recently started selling it at Earthfare and Whole Foods to name some of the larger distribution partners she is utilizing.  Eventually I'm going to persuade her to make a gluten free granola!

I am really looking forward to trying out this recipe.  Thank you for sharing DeeDee and anyone else feel free to send me your healthy recipes.

Vitamin C Intravenous Therapy

Vitamin C has been available to the public for many years.  It became even more famous when the Nobel prize-winning chemist, Linus Pauling, began promoting it as a sort of universal cure-all.
Dr. Rucker getting a Vitamin C IV and Myers Cocktail

One common question asked is, "What is the benefit of taking Vitamin C Intravenously when I can take it orally"?  High does of Vitamin C given orally causes upset stomach and diarrhea (usually anything over 5 g/day causes problems).  If you take large doses of Vitamin C orally not much is absorbed, most is excreted.  Infusions of 10-20 g are given often, with doses of 100 g being administered with no side effects.

Some of the more common conditions we have treated are the following:

  • Cold and Flu - Shortens both severity and duration of illness
  • Wound healing - Useful for post-cosmetic surgery cases
  • Depression - Vitamin C helps raise neurotransmitter levels
  • Fatigue - Revitalizes, boosts energy
  • Allergies - Vitamin C has antihistamine properties
  • Certain neurological conditions

  • We often combine Vitamin C Infusion with Myers Cocktail and Ozone intravenously.  We have successfully been using this combination with the every day person to the professional athlete gearing up for the long haul of their respective seasons.

    Ozone Injection Therapy

Dr. Rucker injecting Ozone in a patient's arm
Probably the most common question we are hear about Ozone Injection Therapy is, "What exactly is Ozone Injection Therapy?".  Ozone Injection Therapy is an alternative therapy that increases the amount of cellular oxygen in the body via the introduction of ozone into muscles, ligaments, and joints.  Unlike the healthy cells that thrive in oxygen, disease causing bacteria (i.e. viruses, parasites, and fungi) are mostly anaerobic and are not be able to survive in high oxygen environments.

Medical oxygen-ozone injection therapy has been used in Europe for many years to relieve neck and back pain, and is gaining traction here in the States as a minimally invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of chronic pain.  Recent literature has shown ozone injection therapy is extremely safe and has been shown to be very effective as a non surgical alternative disc treatment.  In one recent study "around two-thirds of patients who had ozone injected said it relieved the pain caused by disc problems'.

The next question of course is how does the procedure work and how many visits does it take?  That really depends on the severity of the injury and how that individual person's body responds to the treatment.  We have seen as little as one injection being effective to numerous injections being required.  Significant decrease in pain occurs in the three to seven day time frame.  That is the typical window of time Dr. Rucker utilizes to ascertain whether future injections will be needed.

Who would benefit from this treatment?  We have successfully treated Professional Athletes, Amateur Athletes, Auto Injures, and Chronic Injuries to name a few.  The variety of uses is seemingly endless and the therapy is often extremely effective.

    Paleo Banana Pudding

This is a recipe I saw one of my friends post and just had to take a stab at making it, because I love banana pudding and have missed enjoying it since I switched to a Paleo Diet.  How did it measure up to "traditional banana pudding"?  After I served the banana pudding it was GONE within 5 minutes....so it was a big hit.  So on to the good stuff!

    • 3-4 bananas (ripe)
    • 1 can of coconut milk
    • 2 large organic egg yolks
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (add to taste)
    • 2 tablespoon of coconut oil
    1. In a medium sauce pan over medium heat whisk together the coconut milk, egg yolks, and vanilla until the mixture is hot and starts to thicken like a custard.  Set aside once it has thickened
    2. Mash the bananas in a small bowl and set aside
    3. In a small skillet, heat the coconut oil. Add the bananas and the cinnamon and mix together as the mashed banana fries in the oil. Cook until the banana caramelizes.
    4. Add the caramelized banana mixture and oil into the thickened coconut milk mixture and then whisk together to make the pudding.
    5. Pour the warm pudding into a bowl or pie dish and cover with plastic wrap, pushing the wrap all the way to the top of the pudding surface to remove any air bubbles. This will ensure that as the pudding cools it does not form a filmy layer on top.
    6. Let cool for several hours. Top with bananas and walnuts.
For the bananas you mash make sure they are ripe and not too firm.  One other step I didn't do is during step 4 you can put the pudding in a food processor or blender if you want to make it smoother.  I personally like having the clumps in my banana pudding.

I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor and texture and didn't miss the "unhealthy" banana pudding I used to eat.  I will definitely be making this again!

Take care for now.  Eat Healthy and Be Well!
